Idana: “Be ready to listen to some brand new music”
Coming straight from Miami to offer positive musical vibes to the AVi crew, Idana is one of the new commers in the UVAR family, along with the likes of Sepp and Nu Zău, two of the all time crowd favorites here.
We chatted with Idana to find out a few things about what he has prepared for us for Friday night.
AVimag: Hey, Idana! Welcome to Romania! Are you ready to rock AVi?
Idana: Hello, really excited to play. Thank you so much for having me.
AVimag: What are your expectations? You must’ve learned a thing or two about the scene here.
Idana: Many friends have great things to say about AVi and the community in Targu-Mures so I’m really looking forward to it, by the way most parties are in this country you can only expect the best.
Avimag: Tell us something about yourself. Who is Idana? Where are you from?
Idana: Well about myself, two things you should know is that I’m a person who absolutely loves all types of art and sharing quality time with friends. I was born in a town called La Romana, in the Dominican Republic, and moved to Miami in my teen years, I now spend most of my time producing electronic music and playing my guitar.
AVimag: How did you first get in touch with this type of music? When did you first start mixing?
Idana: Ever since I was young I’ve been interested in many different types of music therefore I’ve always had the impulse to experiment and try new things, producing and djing was something that I attempted for fun which eventually became one of the biggest factors in my life. I would say I started djing about seven years ago and producing came some months shortly after that, I’ve been in love ever since.
AVimag: What type of music would you say influenced you the most in your career so far?
Idana: All types of music, music is the most important thing in my life. My parents constantly played good quality music in my house while I was growing up so ever since I was little it’s something that has always been there for me. At the moment I’m catching myself listening to lots of indie, reggae, classical music and classic rock, although I’m constantly searching for interesting music whether it’s really old or brand new.
AVimag: What are your main qualities as a DJ, from your point of view?
Idana: After so much practice and repetition Djing has become a second nature for me, it’s truly one of the things I enjoy the most in the world. As far as my qualities I think I do a good job maintaining a certain energy while also delivering a nice contrast between different styles throughout the night, but in the end its up to the crowd to come up with the answer for this one.
AVimag: Do you have any favorites from the Romanian scene? Not only DJs, but also producers.
Idana: As far as the Romanian guys I’d say I’m really influenced by guys like Sepp, Nu Zău, Barac, Priku just to name a few. I love the culture Romanians have, how educated they are with their music and how much they truly love it. It’s an amazing and beautiful thing, I feel at home here.
AVimag: Who do you think would go great with you on a B2B? In regards to your musical style.
Idana: I love playing B2B with my friends from Miami, they’re extremely talented not only at Djing but are also producing some of the most amazing music I’ve heard in a while.
AVimag: Tell us something about signing with Algorhythmic. How did you feel having your track featured on ALG002?
Idana: It’s been very nice, people have only said nice things about the release. I’ve been really humbled with the feedback we’ve received, it feels great to collaborate in projects like these with great people and also really cool to have my first release alongside one of my best friends Rojid.
AVimag: Do you have a track or a song which you just can’t get enough of?
Idana: At the moment I seriously cannot stop listening to Rhythm & Sound – Mash Down Babylon.
AVimag: How do you think the event at AVi will be on Friday? Is there something you would like the techno fans in Târgu-Mureș to know, to do or to expect?
Idana: For sure it will be a great one! To the fans I’d say no expectations just come with a clear mind, open ears and to be ready to listen to some brand new music from friends and myself.
Avimag: Cheers, dude! Take care! 😀
